The Foghorns "Ain't I A Man" - KEXP Song of The Day January 1, 2016

The Foghorns "Ain't I A Man" - KEXP Song of The Day January 1, 2016
Not a bad way to start out the year.  The Foghorns song "Ain't I A Man" is featured as the KEXP Song of the Day on their first podcast of 2016.

The single was released in 2015 on the album "The Sun's Gotta Shine..."
Bart Cameron was interviewed by the Huffington Post and had this to say about the song:
"I know people are saying it's a folk song, and I'm cool with that, but the reference really is Bo Diddley. He always sang about being a man, or what it was to be a man. Because it was relevant. Because in his time, for people like him, to say you were a man, someone who could earn a living, be sexual, be bold -- that was an act of rebellion. As it would be today."

"So I'm stuck in the city where geeks are all kings / they got all the morals of Louis the 14 / they don't pay no taxes send their kids overseas / so they don't have to see the poor sleepin' on the street / makes it hard to be a man / but ain't I a man."

"The Sun's Gotta Shine..." is part one of a two part concept album so look for another full length album from the Foghorns in 2016.

Teleferik featured in Full Moon zine (Czech Republic)

Teleferik featured in Full Moon zine (Czech Republic)

Teleferik's new album "Lune Electric" was featured in the latest edition of the Czech print zine Full Moon and we have a translation below.

by Jiří Vladimír Matýsek

"A Paris couple Eliz Mourad (voice, bass) and Arno Vincendeau (guitar) - backed with Olivier Hurtu on the drums - are the most prominent evidence of the fact, that intelligent melting of different cultural and stylistic influences can be, at least, interesting. After the three EP's, this October, they come with the full record, Lune Electric. Ten songs melting psychedelia together with blues and hard rock and spice all with a little bit of frech chanson. French is melted with english, an exotic ingredince in the coctail is arabic. Lune Electric is based on the dialogue of guitar and voice, under which there is bubbling bass. The voice of Eliz Mourad comes with a great scale of emotion. The influence of woman soul singers cannot be hidden, her voice can be gentle - and in a just one second could be unstoppable wild. Through the same, unpredictabble waves goes even the music. For all the time, there are middle tempos, but it's variability - if we count the sound - is holding a listener in the thrill and can also suprise him. We can't go far for an example - let's take the first song on the record, Beumont. The song goes from a gently, softly going song with a nice singing, to the dirty, psychedelic-hard rock wild thing. Some songs (Money Value, Behlam Fik), are decorated with the sound of the synthesiser, which should went straight from the deep seventees, where also led the roots of Teleferik. They are, in no way, stuck in the past. The Parisiens come with the record with present sound, record which is dynamic and very enjoyable. It is nothing for one-side lovers of pop and electro. It should draw an attention of listeners, who love intelligent music."

Low Hums featured in Full Moon zine (Czech Republic)

Low Hums featured in Full Moon zine (Czech Republic)

Low Hums new EP "Adventuring In The Near and Far" was featured in the latest edition of the Czech print zine Full Moon and we have a translation below.

by Jiří Vladimír Matýsek

"American Seattle is most famous probably as a cradle of grunge, the musical scene of this six million city still gains attention: let's take Low Hums as an example. The band formed in 2009 around Jonas Haskins, an ex-guitarist of drone-metal band Earth released two LP's and several EP's. Among them is also their newest record, Adventuring in the near and far, an four-song record released digitally and on the casettes only.

The Low Hums music is based on many influencies. The most visible is psychedelia strongly rooted in the sixties, there are also influences of country and the dirtiness of garage rock. Adventuring… comes through the way of soft, non-complicated, alternative rock - which is not meant in a pejorative way. Sound of the EP is based on guitars and jingling banjo (especially on its second part), is little bit hidden in the echoes and is driven forward by simple, yet well working drums by Mike Bayer.

The opening ballad Bongs and Gongs is decorated by dirty, screaming saxophone, which went out of the waves of California surf rock. Others songs fulfill the form of melodically optimistic alt-rock. The tension on the record comes with layered guitars, which goes "in it's own way" over the rythmic section and melody. Many parts takes its listener to far, cosmic emptiness (Breakdown). So, it's the shame, that all the songs keeps the lenght around four minutes - especially, when Low Hums talks on their website about 45-minute jams. This EP is still great promise of things yet to come."

Aaron Semer premier new music video for "Bored Is The King of Israel"

Aaron Semer is celebrating the release of his new album "Love Amidst Collapse" on Thursday December 10 at Conor Byrne Pub with good friends and collaborators Michael Wohl and Coyote.
On his new album, "Love Amidst Collapse," Aaron Semer strips his music down to the bare essentials – acoustic guitars, voice, some basic percussion, and a few shredding solos for good measure. This is a concept album loosely based around the collapse of society as we know it, and how we would go about moving forward after the fall. On a personal basis, it is a reset button – an attempt for Semer to get back to basics as a songwriter, and to address his own fears about the decline and possible collapse of America. "Songs are stories, stories are life," he says. "When you give up on the failing stories you have been telling yourselves as a society, what replaces them?"
Hopefully, songs like these.
