Aaron Semer "Love Amidst Collapse" album release December 10 at Conor Byrne

Aaron Semer "Love Amidst Collapse" album release December 10 at Conor Byrne

Knick Knack Records artist Aaron Semer will be celebrating the release of his new solo album "Love Amidst Collapse" at Conor Byrne Pub in Seattle on Thursday December 10 along with good friends and collaborators Michael Wohl and Coyote.

The album was engineered and co-produced by a frequent Knick Knack collaborator Colin J. Nelson at Her Car Studio in Seattle and mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago IL.

On his new album, “Love Amidst Collapse,” Aaron Semer strips his music down to the bare essentials – acoustic guitars, voice, some basic percussion, and a few shredding solos for good measure. This is a concept album loosely based around the collapse of society as we know it, and how we would go about moving forward after the fall. On a personal basis, it is a reset button – an attempt for Semer to get back to basics as a songwriter, and to address his own fears about the decline and possible collapse of America. “Songs are stories, stories are life,” he says. “When you give up on the failing stories you have been telling yourselves as a society, what replaces them?”

Hopefully, songs like these.

The Stranger once said he was “blessing Seattle with his presence before catapulting to mega-fame.” Seattle Sound Magazine declared him “possibly Seattle’s least apathetic songwriter.” Despite these and other accolades, Aaron Semer’s obscurity felt cemented. Perhaps it was an unwillingness to play the game. Perhaps just dumb luck. But since arriving in Seattle almost two decades ago, Semer has plied his lonely craft in the dirty backrooms, dingy bars, and basements of the Pacific Northwest, both solo and in a host of bands you’ve probably never heard of. His voice and worldview have weathered – fractured in some places, hardened in others – but the timeless, genre-defying quality of his songwriting remains.

New 7 inch vinyl record from GravelRoad "Weavin'" b/w "Flesh and Bone"

On October 8 in Europe and November 14 in the US, GravelRoad is releasing a new 7 inch vinyl record consisting of 2 tracks (Weavin’ b/w Flesh and Bone) that were recorded in 2014 during the El Scuerpo Sessions. The release of this 7 inch record coincides with their European tour that starts on October 8 in Amsterdam and with a tour home-coming show at The Tractor Tavern in Seattle on November 14. The songs on this record are not only stripped to the bone, but also among the weirdest recordings by GravelRoad to date. Dealing with themes of public indecency, intoxication, tracheotomies, and cannibalism, they are truly covering some new lyrical territory here while staying true to their hill country and heavy blues-rock roots. The extra crunchy guitars and saucy vocals backed by a rhythm section dripping with salty, smoky and brawny juices will make you hungry for more.

The Obelsisk had this to say about the upbeat “Flesh and Bone” – “among the happiest songs I’ve ever heard about cannibalism”.
