Mystery Ship record release at the Sunset (photos)

The Sunset Tavern in Ballard was the place to be on Friday night for the Mystery Ship record release party.  Knick Knack Records released the new single for Bridgeburner/Chinatown on 7 inch 45 rpm vinyl and threw down a party to a packed house with some help from our friends Endino's Earthworm and Ghost Town Riot.

Endino's Earthworm debuted their newest member of the band, guitar player Chris Johnsen (Zeke) and ripped through a great set of music including new and old tunes.  Endino's legendary status brought out many serious heavy hitters and legends in the Seattle music scene including Nirvana's Krist Novoselic.

Mystery Ship lit the place on fire with their closing set of the night complete with plenty of flying bodies, beer, sweat, and a drum solo. Carrying on the tradition of heavy music in the Northwest, Mystery Ship were in their element last night.  Below are a few pictures from the show:

GravelRoad enter the studio to record their next full length album

On January 10-12, 2014 GravelRoad began recording the follow up to their 2013 album The Bloody Scalp of Burt Merlin. Over the course of 2 days and 3 nights GravelRoad were able to lay down 5 new tracks, over 26 minutes of music with engineer Brian Nelson at Elliot Bay Recording Company.  Their sound continues to evolve as they explore even heavier sounds with more complex arrangements inspired by the current psychedelic/stoner rock movement while keeping one foot solidly in the north Mississippi blues that they so expertly command.  Below are some photos from the recording session.  The album is slated for release sometime in the summer of 2014 following their European tour.

Merry Christmas from The Foghorns—Here’s a video and free music

Here’s our Christmas video. The song is from our Big F EP, which we released this year through Knick Knack Records.

Thanks to Jason Neuerburg for making the video, and for Colin Nelson, for opening up Her Car studio to allow us to record live. We’ve had a great year thanks entirely to your support, and to people like Levi Fuller, of Ball of Wax, and Greg Vandy, of KEXP.org and American Standard Time, Ed Weinman of The Huffington Post, and Joe and Sarah of the label Knick Knack Records. A bunch of people who didn’t need to care and to help, have helped a lot. Knick Knack have put together a free sampler. Here’s the information. It includes two free songs from us.

http://knickknackrecords.com/blogs/knick-knack-news/11032157-knick-knack-records-winter-2014-sampler-out-now-free

Next year, we will release our eighth studio album, If You Can’t Get Lucky, Please Get Up, with help from Knick Knack Records. But we’ll have more info on that soon.

Thanks again. The Foghorns

Welcome to the world of book publishing Knick Knack Records.

The Seattle indie label has published its first novel, The Ring Road, a Scando-crime thriller by Edward Weinman.

The Ring Road is set in Iceland after a glacial volcano awakens with a series of eruptions, ensnaring ex-cop Hobson in a bizarre murder investigation involving a road-weary homicide detective, a brutal pimp and a homicidal sheep farmer.

Weinman co-wrote the feature film A Little Trip to Heaven, starring Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, two-time Oscar-nominee Jeremy Renner and Julia Stiles.  A Little Trip to Heaven screened at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

The itinerant author described his novel as: “A volcanic eruption. An American tourist trapped in Iceland’s unforgiving landscape. A killer on the loose. Just a normal weekend at 66 Degrees North.”

“I can’t think of a better publisher than Knick Knack Records. The label puts out music with an edge. It has indie cred. The Ring Road’s blend of dark fantasy and irreverent tone not only mirrors Knick Knack’s musicians, but also Seattle’s gray, wet winters.

Knick Knack Records is known for publishing some of Seattle’s top indie bands, artists like The Foghorns, GravelRoad, Mystery Ship, Half Light, Proud Wonderful Me and Lonesome Shack.

The Ring Road is the first novel in the 66 Degrees North series.

Weinman’s second novel, Snowblind, about a drug-deal gone sour set in the days before Iceland’s financial collapse, is forthcoming in early 2014.
