Edward Weinman releases his second novel "Snowblind" on January 20

Edward Weinman has releases his second Novel,  "Snowblind" via Knick Knack Records on January 20, 2015.

About "Snowblind":
Iceland was once the pride of Europe—a strong economy, beautiful people, supposedly one of the happiest nations on Earth. Then it went bankrupt. Snowblind examines Iceland at exactly this moment, detailing what happens when a drug deal turns sour. At the heart of the novel lies the fragile relationship between Jón, a morally confused banker, and his estranged brother Palli. As winter suffocates them with 20 hours of darkness, the brothers find themselves on the run from Gummi, Iceland’s only true homicide detective. As they crisscross Iceland, the torturous chase unearths a bewitching country, unforgiving terrain and spiritual darkness that leads to murder

About Edward Weinman:
He spent nearly one fourth of his life as an expat on Iceland, enduring many long, dark, cold, windy, gray winters. But he made it out alive, without kids and having suffered only one nervous breakdown.

His debut thriller, "The Ring Road," (released in 2013) was born out of his life in Reykjavik where he was based as a travel writer. His journalism has been picked up by The Associated Press and The Sunday Times of London, among others. Edward co-wrote the film "A Little Trip to Heaven" with director Baltasar Kormakur. Little Trip, a psychological thriller starring Forest Whitaker, Jeremy Renner and Julia Stiles, screened at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Edward earned his MFA in writing, literature and publishing from Emerson College in Boston. He has eight brothers and three sisters.

KEXP Song of the Day: GravelRoad - Green Grass

By ANNA MCCLAIN

"While country blues may not be the first genre that comes to mind when thinking of Seattle, local group GravelRoad takes on the Hill blues genre and adds their own Northwest rock ‘n’ roll spin. These guys aren’t just “worn down white dudes” trying to play the blues, they’re the authentic deal -- they earned their stripes backing the late Delta blues musician T-Model Ford. With their latest release, El Scuerpo, out this year, the band took their sound overseas for a European tour, returning stateside to play blues festivals like Deep Blues Northwest.

GravelRoad describes their sound on El Scuerpo as “if Black Sabbath had grown up in Holly Springs, Mississippi”, and today’s featured song, “Green Grass”, certainly proves the group’s ability to blend genre. Featuring heavy, molten guitar riffs, clobbering beats, and dark, rich vocals, the song evokes psychedelic, hill country blues, punk, and rock ‘n’ roll influences in such a way that you may begin to fantasize about riding a motorcycle and even contemplate incorporating more leather into your wardrobe."

No Depression Album Review: GravelRoad - El Scuerpo

by Rick J Bowen ~ No Depression

"Seattle based Gravel Road learned many lessons in their five year apprenticeship with T Model Ford, chief among them being to play to one’s strength and seek out fine collaborators. The quartets album El Scuerpo, released November of 2014 once again finds them mining the caverns of the emerging genre that mixes the raw energy of garage and punk rock, the simplicity of delta blues with a psychedelic seventies sonic known as Deep Blues. The nine tracks rest heavily on the shoulders of the stout rhythm section of Joe Johnson on bass and drummer Martin Reinsel who lay down dynamic entrancing grooves while the guitars push the envelope of compressed overdrive, mixed to perfection by audio genius Jack Endino at his Sound House studios in Seattle.

The opening track “Waiting For Nothing,” reveals slow burning tale of a lonesome man’s inner struggle. The groove gets swinging for the North Mississippi styled “Wolf On Down The Way,” and the heavy duty boogie “40 Miles.” The amazing Lisa Kekaula of the Bell Rays delivers a stirring performance as the first of two guest vocalist on the Junior Kimbrough gospel blues tune, “Lord Have Mercy.” Andrew Chapman leads the band through the sludge rock stomp fest “DD Amin,” and the eight minute epic “Asteroid,” testifies to the bands first love of doom rock pioneers Black Sabbath. The jaunty “Flesh And Bone,” plays upon the popular fixation with zombies with marvelous tongue in cheek flair, and may qualify as the groovy new theme song for The Walking Dead. "

GravelRoad release 'El Scuerpo' and head to Mississippi

Knick Knack Records is proud to announce the release of GravelRoad’s fifth studio album on December 9th (advance copies available now) and we wanted you to be among the first to check it out. The album was engineered by Brian Nelson at Elliot Bay Recording Co and was mixed by Jack Endino at Soundhouse. Rick Fisher did the mastering at RFI. It features two guest vocalists, Andrew Chapman (Princess, The Keeper) on DD Amin, and Lisa Kekaula (The Bellrays, Lisa & The Lips) on the Junior Kimbrough song, Lord Have Mercy. The album art is by Kyler Martz.

This is GravelRoad’s best album yet.  They’ve taken the North Mississippi style of blues and pushed it into some really heavy territory where Black Sabbath might have been had they grown up in Holly Springs Mississippi instead of Birmingham.  You can help us spread the word by sharing the link below.
