"Even the well-known proverb tells it differently; sometimes apples fall quite far away from the tree. A great example would be Sindri Eldon, son of Iceland most important exported music commodity. Recent Eldon's record, Bitter & Resentful in no way reminds his mum's avant-garde experiments. On the contrary, he goes to the bone of straightforward American alternative rock music from the latter half of the nineties, remember Lemmonheads for example. Eldon's record is positive collection of songs, which are based on simple instrumentation and an arcade of melodies (e.g. opening of the first song "a capella").
Even though the record has a sunny atmosphere, there is no fear of punching into the actual problems. An opening song America, An Ode is in no way an ode - same as old Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. The record connects the view of a person from outside (Sindri Eldon was born on Iceland), a foreigner, which comes with a critical blade and goes into funny contrast with the sunny Californian atmosphere. This singer-songwriting layer moves the record from tentative mood to criticism, from sun to the darker tones.
The record doesn't stop (with the exception of an ambient piano part in the song Doer and sad Things Coming to a Head) and has a punk energy that is dragged forward by hard-hitting drums and a dirty guitar sound and is highlighted by crystal clean production. It’s not boring and is variable to keep listeners concentration. But, a little shortening would be quite OK (e.g. song 18 or too-much-pop Irma (The Game), one hour of playing time is a little bit over the line. Despite those little things there is one thing – the straightforward rock'n'roll with a critical blade. This is the most suitable description of Bitter & Resentful from Sindri Eldon."

Knick Knack Records landed a sweet spot in Axis Pioneer Square's new space on 1st and Main, a cavernous and venerable location formerly occupied by Seattle's beloved Elliott Bay Book Store. We'll be here slinging vinyl until October 31, every day from 11 to 6, sporting the latest in wearable Knick Knack merch and blasting some choice cuts for those fortunate and/or intelligent enough to drop by. There might also be exclusive discount codes lying around for our physical visitors, codes that will net them free shipping on our fabulous online store.

But don't just come for opportunistic mercenary reasons. Come for the vibe and feel of a homegrown and carefully curated record store in a wonderful new space that hasn't been open for years. On July 16, Knick Knack Records will be joining 30+ other Seattle based independent record labels at Channel Fest.  This is a landmark event for the Seattle music community that will bring together record labels of all sizes and genres representing the richness of the local music scene as it really is today. Including newly launched & reissue labels specializing in rock, psych, garage, pop, R&B, funk, soul, hip hop, italodisko, EDM, electro, synth pop, new wave, lo-fi, shoegaze, punk, grime, metal, industrial, doom, experimental, noise, instrumental, field recordings & rarities.

The daytime event will be held from noon to 7 pm at the Fred Wildlife Refuge at 128 Belmont Ave East in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle.  The event is all ages from 12-7 and will be followed by a concert event starting at 8pm that is 21+ only.

Sindri Eldon & The Ways are celebrating the release of a new double album titled Bitter & Resentfulpressed on blue vinyl.  With its captivating sense of melody, its inventive and economical arrangements, and its commanding yet often cute sense of song-structure, Bitter & Resentful is an album set to lighten the mood of even the darkest winter night. But this is more than vanilla music for a distracted generation, as song titles such as "Song Of Frustration In The Face Of Resolute Fidelity" and "I Have Earned The Right To Be A Failure" make clear. Even more defiantly, Bitter & Resentful’s opening track runs its sentiment straight up the flag-pole and asks the listener to salute with the title "America – An Ode".

The west coast tour starts on August 23 at the Sunset Tavern in Seattle with fellow Knick Knack Records artists Crazy Eyes and Low Hums.  Also coming this summer is the first installment of a 3 part Anthology series to be released on cassette titled The Damage Is Already Done covering the years 2003-2008.
