Juke Joint Festival In Clarksdale MS Starts This Weekend!
The 16th annual Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale Mississippi gets underway this weekend featuring Knick Knack Records artists Brett Benton (Seattle) and Ryan Lee Crosby (Boston) - schedules below.
Brett's raw style is best heard one of two ways: paying homage to its roots with solo, acoustic slide guitar and “stompin’ and hollerin’ ” as Bad Blood himself would put it; and electric alongside a heavy, relentless and dynamic style of drums that really emphasizes what country blues is all about… the hypnotic groove that gets folks up and dancing!
- Friday April 12 at 7:15pm Brett Benton performing at the New Roxy
- Saturday April 13 at 2pm Brett Benton performing at the Mr Tater Memorial Stage
With an intercontinental band, Ryan Lee Crosby blends American folk-blues and North Indian raga into meditative songs of impermanence, compassion and joy. Through his music, Crosby hopes to inspire peace, openness and respect - for tradition, for culture, for each other and for one’s self.
Ryan Lee Crosby’s “River Music will satisfy the slightly adventurous listener as few other records I heard last year.” - Matt Hanson, The ARTS FUSE
Ryan Lee Crosby’s sound “is an update on the ghostly, close-to-the-bone approach of Delta bluesman Skip James. But don’t be fooled — the legendary Burnside and Kimbrough clans are among his gurus, and he's learned well.” Ted Drozdowski - NASHVILLE SCENE
- Friday April 12 at 11am Ryan Lee Crosby performing at Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Arts
- Friday April 12 at 8:15pm Ryan Lee Crosby performing at the New Roxy
- Saturday April 13 at 1pm Ryan Lee Crosby performing at the Paramount Marquee Stage
- Saturday April 13 at 3pm Ryan Lee Crosby performing at the Bluesberry Cafe
